MacKay & Company Releases 2015 DataMac Truck & Bus Mexico Report

MacKay & Company’s recently released its 2015 DataMac Truck & Bus Mexico, the fifth comprehensive study of the Mexican aftermarket completed by MacKay & Company since 1995. As part of this study, MacKay profiles replacement demand for over 300 components including annual demand, point of service, point of final sale, type of replacement component and segmentation by several vocations.

An internal detailed analysis of vehicle retail sales was conducted while MacKay's research partner in Mexico completed nearly 400 interviews with owners and maintainers of trucks and buses as well as parts and service distribution points.

It is estimated that approximately 543,632 medium and heavy duty commercial trucks, tractors and buses were in operation in Mexico in 2015. This population of operating power units has expanded by 24,183 vehicles or 5% during the three years since the last MacKay & Company survey conducted in 2011.

OE truck dealers in the U.S. continued to fulfill the largest portion of retail parts demand with 48% share in 2015. Truck dealers in Mexico, however, captured 15% of total replacement parts demand.
With 2015 parts retail shares of 32% and 30%, independent garage and heavy duty distributor outlets served 62% of total Mexican parts demand. These respective shares were 23 points and 11 points larger than enjoyed by these channels in the U.S. Auto parts suppliers fulfilled 15% of Mexican parts demand but only 4% in the U.S. in 2015. In total, the four retail channels sited above served 91% of Mexican parts demand and 78% of the U.S. total in 2015.
